Outplacement support covers the full scope of support to help employees transition following their departure from an organisation. This is usually through redundancy, but can also take place after other reasons for leaving, i.e. settlement agreements.
It can include many aspects, including –

For many staff, redundancy can be a very stressful time. Many individuals have worked for their organisation for many years, and may not have ever been in the position of applying for new roles, producing CVs or entering into the job market.
What are the benefits of offering outplacement support?
For employees – the support can provide them with increased confidence to secure a new role. It is often seen as a benefit and can make the redundancy process easier
For employers – offering outplacement support can reduce risk of tribunals and litigation. Supporting employees to find a new role can decrease the likelihood of them pursuing claims, as well as helping with reputational aspects and maintaining morale.
For remaining staff – it is often very easy to forget the impact that redundancies can have on the staff who remain. This is sometimes called “survivor syndrome”. These staff may be fearing their own job security, or seeing how departing staff are treated as a sign of how they would be treated themselves. Managing a fair, supportive departure can increase morale and minimise disruption for staff who remain employed.
